John Muir Trail Study No. 4

$200.00

These small works are “Part One” of an extended collection based on footage from Harmen Hoek’s film hiking the 215 mile (350 km) long-distance John Muir trail in September to October 2023.

As a large-scale painter, I welcome these studies as a way to practice control, decision-making with my palette, and to test subjects for larger pieces. Immersing myself in Hoek’s footage has been a long-time mental warm-up for me. It scratches that part of my brain that wants to capture light, mist, vastness, deep shadows, and fleeting moments that are so pure in wild places.

Hoek goes where I will most likely never access on my own two legs. For that, I am grateful to live vicariously through his films, and to create an extended experience through painting these awe-inspiring places. With that said, a special thanks goes to adventurous film maker, Harmen Hoek for permission to use his footage as reference material. I encourage everyone to watch his cinematic films and escape into nature.

Details: Oil on cradled wood panel (pinewood and birch plywood), 8" x 8" (20.3cm x 20.3cm), 0.75" (1.9 cm) profile. Each painting is signed on the back and left unwired for a clean, versatile display. Hang directly from the cradled frame, or stand on a surface like your work desk, shelf, or mantle. For a professional finish, I recommend Ampersand brand wood floater frames, which pair beautifully with these panels.

Shipping: Shipping is only offered in the U.S. via FedEx Home Delivery (1-5 days). Shipping is free and local delivery is optional. Please email kathrynhackneyart@gmail.com to arrange local delivery to the following Washington counties: King, Snohomish, Skagit, and Whatcom.

The original artwork is intended for personal display purposes only and should not be reproduced, resold, or used for any commercial purposes without obtaining proper authorization.
